Harvest Bible Chapel of Highland Park is one of five Campuses of Harvest Bible Chapel.

OUR MISSION

Our mission is to glorify God through fulfillment of the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20) in the spirit of the Great Commandment (Matthew 22:36-40). To this end, Harvest will strive to develop more and better disciples, more and better leaders, so that there will be more and better churches.

Marks of a Disciple

A disciple is someone who has made a genuine profession of faith in Jesus Christ. Additionally, they live on mission practicing their faith and persevering in their faith no matter what the world throws at them. What then are the marks of a genuine, on mission disciple of Jesus?

Uniquely Planted

Placed here and now to reach others with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

I am representing Jesus where I live, work, study, and play by living out my divine design.

Deeply Rooted

As a seed sown in God’s good soil.

I am consistently cultivating a deeper love for God through a growing knowledge of who He is and who I am in Him.

Carefully Pruned

Lovingly and thoughtfully disciplined by a loving God.

I am choosing to trust God to use the highs and lows of my life to make me more like Jesus.

Persistently Fruitful

A fruit bearer producing a “profit” for the kingdom.

I am increasingly reflecting and proclaiming Jesus to help others find and follow Him.

At Harvest, we are committed to making genuine, on mission disciples who are Uniquely Planted, Deeply Rooted, Carefully Pruned, and Persistently Fruitful. This is how we strive to do that.

Gather

We gather weekly to engage in God’s Word, pray, and worship with our church family.

Grow

We engage in community with others and are committed to purposeful spiritual growth through God’s Word and other spiritual practices.

We go out as missionaries where we live, work, and play, sharing our life with others to help them find and follow Jesus.

OUR BELIEFS

Bible

We believe and affirm that God has spoken in the Scriptures, both Old and New Testaments, through the words of human authors. As the verbally inspired Word of God, the Bible is without error in the original writings, the complete revelation of His will for salvation, and the ultimate authority by which every realm of human knowledge and endeavor should be judged. Therefore, it is to be believed in all that it teaches, obeyed in all that it requires, and trusted in all that it promises.

God

We believe and affirm that there is one God, Creator of all things and all creatures, human and angelic. God spoke and all things were created out of nothing, ex nihilo. God is holy, infinitely perfect, graciously good, abounding in mercy and eternally existing in a loving unity of three equally divine Persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit—the Trinity. Having limitless knowledge and sovereign power, God has graciously determined from eternity to redeem a people for Himself and to make all things new for His own glory and the good of His people.

Humanity and the Human Condition

We believe and affirm that God created people in His image, each either male or female, and holistically, body and soul. As a blessing for us, people are commissioned to be fruitful, to fill the earth, to rule under God. Concurrent with this blessing is marriage: one man with one woman. All sexual expression outside of the blessed marital covenant is outside of God’s will and is sin against God and other people. The first sin came from our first parents, Adam and Eve, when they were tempted by Satan and rebelled against God. Subsequently, in our union with Adam including our descent from and connection to him, human beings are sinners by nature and by choice, alienated from God, and under His wrath. Only through God’s saving work in Jesus Christ can we be rescued, reconciled, and renewed.

Jesus Christ

We believe and affirm that Jesus Christ is God incarnate, fully God and fully man, one Person with two natures. Jesus is before all things, and all things hold together in Him. As Israel’s promised Messiah, Jesus of Nazareth was conceived through the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He lived a sinless life, was crucified under Pontius Pilate, arose bodily from the dead, ascended into heaven, and sits at the right hand of God the Father as our High Priest and Advocate.

The Work of Christ

We believe and affirm that Jesus Christ, as our representative and substitute, shed His blood on the cross as the perfect all-sufficient sacrifice for our sins. His vicarious atoning death and victorious resurrection constitute the only ground for salvation. All people are in Adam and under sin; all believers are in Christ and enjoy salvation.

The Holy Spirit

We believe and affirm that the Holy Spirit, in all that He does, glorifies the Lord Jesus Christ. He convicts the world of its guilt. He regenerates sinners, and in Him they are baptized into union with Christ and adopted as heirs in the family of God. He also indwells, illuminates, guides, equips, and empowers believers for Christ-like living and service.

The Church

We believe and affirm that the true Church comprises all who have been justified by God’s grace through faith alone in Christ alone. They are united by the Holy Spirit in the body of Christ, of which He is the Head. The true Church is manifest in local churches. The Lord Jesus mandated two ordinances, baptism and the Lord’s Supper, which visibly and tangibly express the gospel. In the initial recognition of incorporation into the Church, believer’s baptism by immersion pictures our cleansing from sin and union with Christ. In the ongoing recognition of relationship with God and the Church, the Lord’s Supper, contemplated sincerely, pictures the death of Jesus whereby believers receive salvation and delight in fellowship with the Triune God until Jesus returns in His kingdom. Although the ordinances do not justify one before God, when celebrated by the Church in genuine faith, these ordinances confirm and nourish the believer. As the bride of Christ, we, the Church, eagerly await Jesus’ return.

We believe it is the aim, duty, and privilege of every believer and local church fellowship to glorify God by responding as active participants in the Great Commission call of Jesus Christ to go and make disciples of all nations. We believe the primary focus and priority of this call is centered on efforts that establish, strengthen, and reproduce biblically-based churches, which will then plant churches that plant churches for future generations and God’s glory.

Christ's Return

We believe and affirm the future resurrection of all Christians, and the personal, bodily, and glorious return of our Lord Jesus Christ. The coming of Christ, at a time known only to God, demands constant expectancy and, as our blessed hope, motivates the believer to godly living, sacrificial service, and energetic mission, making disciples of the nations.

Response and Eternal Destiny

We believe and affirm that God commands everyone everywhere to believe the gospel by turning to Him in repentance and receiving the Lord Jesus Christ by faith. We affirm that God will raise the dead bodily and judge the world, assigning the unbeliever to condemnation and eternal conscious punishment and the believer to eternal blessedness and joy with the Lord in the New Heaven and the New Earth, to the praise of His glorious grace. Amen.

Christian Living

We believe and affirm that, because of God’s holy nature and a believer’s high calling, Scripture teaches and commands personal and ecclesiastical separation from religious apostasy, from all sinful actions that reflect willful or continued disobedience to the Word of God. This does not include separation from unbelievers who need the Gospel of Jesus Christ, nor does it include brothers and sisters in Christ who are walking in doctrinal or behavioral error but not under church discipline.

We believe and affirm that God’s justifying grace must not be separated from His sanctifying power and purpose. God commands us to love Him supremely and others sacrificially, and to express our faith with care for one another, compassion toward the poor and justice for the oppressed. With God’s Word, the Spirit’s power, and fervent prayer in Christ’s name, we are to combat the spiritual forces of evil. In obedience to Christ’s commission, we are to make disciples of all nations, always bearing witness to the gospel in word and deed, in family and vocation, all for the glory of God.

OUR HISTORY

THE HUMBLE BEGINNINGS

Harvest Bible Chapel Highland Park is one of the campuses of Harvest Bible Chapel, a non-denominational evangelical church founded in 1988 by James MacDonald in the Chicago area. Harvest grew from a small group meeting in a high school to a large multi-campus church serving thousands across the Chicago metropolitan region.

Highland Park Campus Timeline

2012 – The Highland Park campus was launched as part of Harvest Bible Chapel's expansion into Chicago's North Shore communities.

2015 – The campus moved into its own permanent facility at 1731 Deerfield Road, Highland Park, Illinois.

Today – The campus serves the Highland Park and North Shore area with weekly worship services, children's ministry, small groups, outreach opportunities, and discipleship programs.

MEET OUR LEADERS

Cory Anderson

Pastor

Cory Anderson is the primary Bible teacher during our Sunday worship services. He holds a BA in Theology and an MA in New Testament from Briercrest Bible College in Saskatchewan Canada. He is currently working on his PhD in Applied Theology with an emphasis in Apologetics. Cory, along with his beautiful wife Trina have four adult children and three grandchildren. In his spare time he loves to have time with his family, read, hang out with Cocoa his chocolate lab, and practice Jiujitsu.

Abigail Tlucek

Director of Harvest Kids

Abigail Tlucek serves as the Kids Director and Outreach Coordinator. She is passionate about teaching kids and making church a place where they can have fun, build friendships, and grow in their understanding of God’s Word. Outside of ministry, you can usually find her biking, out on a long walk, spending time with family and friends, or enjoying a good cup of coffee. She is originally from Utah, but now lives in Illinois with her husband Ben—and she absolutely loves it!
